It's that time of year again when top freedivers from all around the word arrive in the Bahamas to compete at annual Suunto Vertical Blue held at Dean's Blue Hole. It's great to see the sport to evolve and each year we witness national as well as world records being broken in a picturesque bay west of Clarence Town on Long Island. Although William Trubridge missed the chance to compete against his regular Russian rival, Alexey Molchanov not competing this year, it was nonetheless exciting......
So what was new this year? VB welcomed some freshmen on board and apart from familiar faces in attendance this year for the first time was Annelie Pompe of Sweden, a world renowned mountaineer who was the first Swedish woman to summit Everest. Sofia Gomez Uribe of Colombia also decided to go for it. In her first appearance, Sofia, the youngest competitor at this year event, completed a free immersion dive to 67 meters to secure herself a new national record. The list go on and on, Alejandro Lemus, Sayuri Kinoshita, they all added a national records to their freediving portfolios.
