Easter Island Scuba Diving - Henri and Michel Garcia
The Garcia brothers, Henri and Michel, born in the south of France, founded the Orca Diving Center in 1980. Henri first arrived here in 1976 as a diver of Jacques Yves Cousteau’s scientific expedition, Michel arrived in 1978 to help him. Ever since they’ve collaborated and their team has worked with several personalities such as Jack Randall, Thor Heyerdhal, Kevin Costner (Rapa Nui), Jacques Mayol, Nicolat Hulot, Laird Hamilton and many others.
The Orca Diving Center has more than 30 years experience in undersea and water activity on Easter Island or Rapa Nui. They have made expeditions to the unknown island of Sala and Gómez. They have been involved in many national and international TV documentaries and also with the scientific investigations of many of the worlds universities. In 1981 they discovered the giant coral and new species of coral, fish and seashells such as the Cypraeidae "Cribrarula Garcai". Lately they have published the book "The Underwater World of Easter Island". This includes pictures and scientific data of the natural and wild beauty of the unknown "big blue" of Rapa Nui.
