Kampermauer is a quite large and sought-after climbing area with many climbing paths of a high quality. The actual area is made up of huge crags, on which there are approximately 80 sport climbing routes mainly of the difficulty from V to VIII of UIAA degree and the lengths from 20 to 300 meters. The highest spots of the massif exceed the height of 300 meters. The whole area is exposed to the south, therefore the rocks are nicely warmed. The area is mostly very well secured. And the new Via Ferrata adds to its attraction. See the video below.
While Superdiagonale (V+/VI- 300 m) is considered the most challenging of the massif, and Adrex.com recommends also the following set of trails: Wasserfallkante V+/190 m, Vegetarierkante IV/V- 170 m and Hermeline V+/VI- 155 m.
The two mountain rescue platforms were connected with an extreme Via Ferrata forming a great „Kletter“ round in 2012. The most difficult passages (D/E) are in the second part of the climb, right after the long rope bridge. The key point, an exposed traverse right (E), will not be there at the top, just before the exit. Climbing shoes are strongly recommended for the overhanging parts.
The climbing wall of Kampermauer leads to a height of 1,394 m above sea level. The climb of the Kamper wall offers a large number of well-secured, lightweight (III - V) and moderate (VI - VIII) routes. The special feature of the Kamper wall is the wall´s height with many large multi-pitch routes and the typical alpine character of the climb.
Rock climbing area near the Hengstpass saddle in one of the most favourite in the central part of Austria. The climbing area has grown to a considerable dimension in the last twenty years. The Kamper walls are suitable for climbing trips from spring till late autumn. In the early spring, there is a danger of avalanches, falling stones hazard persists all year round here.
Kampermauer is situated halfway between the Austrian cities of Linz and Graz. Take A9 (E57) Highway until the Windischgarsten Exit, drive through the city and follow east about 7 miles (10 km) by L550. The nearest village is Rosenau am Hengstpaß, a municipality in the district of Kirchdorf an der Krems in the Upper Austria. Continue through Rosenau and approximately two miles more behind the village where on the left side, the saddle of Hengstpass and its towering 300 meter high Kampermaueru can not be overlooked. Parking place is just 100 meters from the rocks on the left. You can park also at Laussabaueralm.
