Crystal Awards Innsbruck / Alpin Urban Art 2020

From 18th to 22nd February it was time for the first “Alpin-Urban-Art” festival in Innsbruck. An Event which should bring together people fascinated by alpin sports and the culture and art behind those sports. The festival not only included the big Crystal Awards Innsbruck Film & photo competition it was also host of some very cool side events.

Crystal Awards Innsbruck

The biggest event of the week was for sure the Crystal Awards film & photo competition. The five competing teams, always 3 riders, 1 filmmaker and 1 photographer, just had 4 days time to produce a short movie and 3 pictures. It was only allowed to shoot in the ski areas around Innsbruck so the teams needed a lot of creativity to separate themselves from the other teams and take home the win.

Right at the end of those four days all the pictures from the teams where shown in an exhibition from Friday to sunday at the Bar Moustache in town center where also the pricegiving of the photo competition was happening on Friday night.

There where three categories the teams competed against each other, “best lifestyle”, “best action” and “best overall”.

In the best lifestyle picture the Team “Snowgirls” with Photographer Hans Friedrich and Rider Benjamin Kalra took home the win. With a new and different view and style of a classic Innsbruck picture they could impress the judges and walked away with 500€ pricemoney.

The Action category was very hard for the judges. Three pictures where very close together and in the end it was all about the details of the photographers work and so the Team “Core Shot Productions” could take the win. Photographer Klaus Floery could put all the details together and shot an impressive picture of his rider Julian Ueberbacher dropping over a tunnel.

After winning the Action category last year the Team “Chaos” was hungry for the win in the overall category. Photographer Moritz Ablinger and his rider Tao Kreibich came in with a bang! In the words of our judges it’s “A picture where everything comes together”. Simply said the perfect winner of the overall category and 1.000€ pricemoney.

On Saturday evening it was already time to screen the short movies the teams produced. After some teams worked the whole night to get the clips ready everybody was curious to see what the other teams have been up to. Between the Clips all the Teams got interviewed by the host of the evening Christian Gaderer to give the judges time to think about the clip.

After watching all Clips DJ MUELLER & DJ ANDY BRUNNER played some nice tunes until the pricegiving. Because the decision was so close it took the judges 45 minutes to decide there can’t be one winner, there must be two!

Team “Chaos” with photographer Moritz Ablinger, filmmaker Semmy Dueren and the riders Tao Kreibich, Sebastian Hiersche and Valentin Rainer could top up there Photography victory with a splited win in the shortmovie competition.

The second half of the 1.500€ pricemoney went out to Team “only good times” with photographer Matthias Kuchling, filmmaker Luigi Dellarole and the riders Daniel Schemmel, Julian Hauer and Kilian Echalier.

Both teams made very different movies and so the decision of the judges was very clear in the end it’s a splited victory and the first Crystal Awards Innsbruck movie competition comes to an end with 2 winners and a great Afterparty with 2 DJ’s!

But Alpin-Urban-Art is more than just the Crystal Awards there where also a lot of side events happening during the week.

On Wednesday it all started with a very nice art exhibition and live painting in the Burton Store Innsbruck. Cool pieces of Art, freedrinks and nice tunes by a live DJ invited to hang out there with friends and enjoy some live painting while having a good time. The best was that the 3 oldschool snowboards which have been livepainted by the artist where given out to the crowd in a raffle afterwards!

Ice carving competiton

On Saturday during the day there was also a lot happening in Innsbruck. In front of the shopping center “Sillpark” was happening a big Icecarving competition where 8 artists carved animals out of a block of ice. From 11am to 4pm people could walk by and watch the artists carving their sculptures, enjoy good tunes from the live DJ playing. The winner was decided by the people who could vote for their favourite and win cool prices by the shopping center like shopping vouchers etc.

Game of Go Shred

Who preferred being on the mountain was not disappointed either. In the Nordkette skyline snowpark above Innsbruck there was happening the “Game of Go-Shred”. A competition where not the heaviest tricks or spin to win counts it’s more about a fun gathering enjoying the time on the mountain together. In this competition it was more about the highest Ollie, the fastest snowboard duckwalk or the furthest ski pole throw. Of course there where also free drinks, free barbecue and great sound by a live DJ which made it a perfect day.

Cloud 9 sunset Party

After skiing or snowboarding it was time to enjoy the last sunrays up at Seegrube on the Innsbruck Nordkette. In front of a Igloo inside which a artist carved historical persons and creatures in the walls the sundowner party started. The highlight was definitely the show of “BamBam” who built his own mechanical sequenzer and played a great set during the last light of the day.
