Ideally located in US Mecca of ballooning, Albuquerque, Airborne Heat Ballooning goal is to provide a highly personalized service offering the very best hot air ballooning experience from one the most experienced balloonists in the business.
They are proud members of the Balloon Federation of America (BFA) and the Aircraft Operators and Pilots Association (AOPA). Airborne Heat became the first corporate member of the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association (AAAA), although the principals had long had individual memberships.
Elizabeth Wright-Smith
Elizabeth (Beth) Wright-Smith is the President, Chief Instructor and Chief Pilot of Airborne Heat. As a balloon pilot for over 35 years, with 3800+ hours total time in balloons as a sport pilot, competition pilot and commercial/corporate pilot and instructor, Elizabeth knows well how to fly over the country. She has been involved in ballooning since a child in the 1960´s. She has flown many models of balloons, including large ride balloons and special shape balloons. Beth began giving the pilot training courses in 1985. She has trained over 200 students since and has given them more than 1200 hours of flight instruction. She served multiple terms on the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association board. Today, Elizabeth Wright-Smith also serves as an FAA appointed Designated Pilot Examiner.
Based in Albuquerque, Elizabeth Wright-Smith is designated by the FAA to give pilot exams. All scheduling is individualized. The courses and training are enhanced by other very experienced Flight Instructors, Troy Bradley and Don Boyer.
Once you have completed your hot air balloon pilot training, you will need the Practical Test, commonly called a checkride; the “final test” in order to obtain your Private, Commercial or Add-On pilot certification. The test has both oral questioning plus flying tasks.
