Brian was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, USA. His parents move to Orlando when he was about 10 years old and started slowly getting into wakeboarding. He did couple of events and hooked up with Scott Byerly, a pioneer in the wakeskating world. "That's how I got into wakeskating, through Scott, he helped me a lot at the beginning", Brian recalls. He felt in love with the sport immediately as soon as he started riding at a cable park and hitting rails. From that moment on, he started pushing in it further.
Wakeboarder magazine’s 2007 Wakeskater of the Year, a winner of the Pro Wakeskate Tour, Vans Triple Crown, U.S. Nationals and Wakeskating World Championships, Brian wants to enter and win more events in years to come. However, not all the medals makes one happy, what’s really meaningful to him is to go on learning new tricks, riding every day, and helping to progress the sport. "The great thing about it (wakeskating) is that the possibilities are unlimited, so there’s always going to be something new,” Brian says.
Dominik started wakeskating in 2006 and since then, he has won numerous events such as German Wakeskate Champion 2006, Runner-up German Wakeskate Championship 2007, King of the Lake two times in a row and in 2009, and Wake the Pool Champion." I was lucky to have a lake with a perfect cable at the front of my parents' house", he adds to his accomplishments.
Even for one of the world's best wakeskate pros like Brian Grubb this spot proved to be a real challenge: "This was my seventh trip to the Philippines, and my biggest project ever! Since I first saw the drawing of these huge rice terraces on the back of the 1000 Peso bill, the idea of having a session there wouldn't let me go. It was only a drawing but it looked like a perfect winch spot and probably a super scenic location. And it was! The whole project was a real adventure for the team and us. It is still incredible that we were wakeskating at such a fascinating place!"
The spot covered four pools with a total length of 80 meters. To keep the scenery's natural look, the setup was kept as simple as possible: the only man-made obstacles being a wooden log slider and the custom winch setup. Both riders had a blast performing a whole bunch of tricks, such as Brian´s stylish FS and BS Lipslide Shuvit Outs.
And of course, respect for the environment was a priority from the beginning of this project! The team made certain that the plants and wildlife were neither damaged nor disturbed during the whole session. All aspects were agreed with the locals, taking into consideration their traditions and culture. The guys even gathered at the local tribe ceremony to get a permission to ride the rice terraces.
